The Sonoma Treehouse

Sleeps: 8

Description

The Sonoma Treehouse has been designed and furnished to make every guest feel special - every bedroom and space has something unique to offer.  It is also a study in contradictions - beautifully appointed with mid-century modern furniture, art, and sculptures, but perfectly safe for children and pets thanks to all wood floors, stain free rugs and easy-to-clean surfaces and fabrics.  Most importantly, everyone gets their own privacy and space (lots of it) thanks to its thoughtful layout and location.

It may look intimidating when you pull up the steep drive, but rest assured the inside is warm and welcoming.  It is a spacious 3 bedroom/2 bathroom (plus 150 sqft kid's loft!) and quietly tucked away in the redwoods on a hillside offering a filtered view of the ocean which can be enjoyed from 4 different balconies.  Open the windows and let the sound of the surf fill the rooms.

Once you walk up the outside stairs and enter the Sonoma Treehouse, you will be amazed.  As we start our tour on the lower floor above the garage, you first see beautiful wood stairs on the right leading to the upper floor and French doors on the left, leading to the first bedroom.  This beautiful spacious bedroom has a queen bed with dual control mattress warmer, dresser, art deco slipper chair, its own smart TV, and drapes on the French doors to provide privacy for couples, or can remain open for children.  Continuing down the hallway takes you to the TV room with a very comfy roomy leather sectional, another smart TV, Dish Network satellite, PlayStation 4 with games and 2 controllers, a Blu-Ray/DVD player, and lots of family board games.

To ensure you can stay connected to the outside world if you choose, the house has fiber optic WiFi and a land line You will also notice through the French doors is the large balcony with a hot tub.  This luxury hot tub has custom-built steps with hand rails, towel rods and robe hooks on the wall, and convenient benches.  A large capacity pedestal washer and dryer set are tucked away at the end of the hallway for those wet bathing suits and beach clothes.  Non-breakable wine glasses, champagne glasses, tumblers, and liquor glasses are located upstairs in the kitchen.  Enjoy your favorite beverage, relax, and unwind!  Did we mention you also have a filtered view of the ocean?  The sunsets in the evening are not too shabby either from the hot tub.

Continuing down the hallway through the TV room, is the lower master bedroom and bathroom. This big, beautiful ocean-inspired bedroom has plenty of room for a king bed, armoire, high boy, and comfy lounge chair.  Like all the other beds, the dual-control mattress warmer means he can open the window at night for some fresh cool air while she can stay warm and comfortable.  Continue through the bedroom to the French doors that lead out to the private lower Southern balcony which has a bistro set for two and a huge two-person hammock.

This whole area - bedroom, bathroom, TV room, and hot tub balcony can be closed off from the rest of the house with a giant barn door that glides like butter.  This is the perfect, out-of-the-way, ultimate master suite for the love birds in your group.

Now, let's go upstairs and explore the upper level.  Believe it or not, it gets better.  As you walk up the stairs, large windows give you a peaceful view of the surrounding forest and a filtered view of the ocean.  At the top of the stairs you reach the open, airy Great Room with a 25 foot ceiling, convenient push-button gas fireplace, gourmet kitchen with a Viking range, gorgeous black soapstone counters, every appliance and serving tool you could want, and 350 sqft of balconies.  The Western balcony has an 8-person patio dining set with an angled umbrella.  The Southern balcony has a Weber propane grill and bar-height bistro table to keep the chef company.  Just for fun, there is even a large selection of colorful aprons of different styles hanging up in the small room off the kitchen.  The star of the show, though, is a gorgeous lacquered dining table for six with coordinated Danish chairs.

This room is THE PLACE to be for those unforgettable California sunsets.  Open the Great Room French doors to the Western balcony, turn on the fireplace, open a bottle of wine, and absorb the sounds of the ocean breaking on the rocks as you watch the pinks, purples, and oranges fade on the horizon.

The second master suite is also on this level.  Behind its door you'll find a king-sized bed with a dual-control mattress warmer, Danish floating desk and leather chair perfect for a laptop or applying makeup (lighted makeup mirror provided), and a smart TV over the gas fireplace.  A master bathroom is attached with a beautiful slate walk-in shower, vessel sink, and lots of drawers and cabinet space.  A closet is off the bathroom with a dresser and lots of space for hanging clothes.  A personal library of a very eclectic selection of books and art line the built-in bookcases.  Feel free to catch up on a little light reading of Greg Iles, Shakespeare, Noam Chomsky, or Washington Irving, to name a few.  You can relax in your own light-filled, elevated reading nook on a striking yellow leather chair and foot stool.  The rest of the bedroom is also light-filled thanks to the two skylights above the bed, which also make for amazing star-gazing at night.

Through the kitchen to the left is a small room that contains more than aprons.  It also has the loft ladder.  The loft is 150 sqft and above the kitchen.  It has two twin bunk beds with stairs, a large couch, and two end tables.  A giant picture window looks out into the forested hillside and two sky lights ensure the loft has plenty of light for playtime.   Each bed has its own mattress warmer and controls.  The kids have a stunning view of the ocean through the trees, so they don't feel left out.

Every detail in this house was designed to help you feel at home and relaxed.  From the zoned radiant floor heating, push button fireplace, endless hot water, high-end hot tub, and forested privacy, you'll be dreaming about the Sonoma Treehouse until your next visit.

Reviews

“Had an amazing time at the house! Easy check in process and the hospitality folks were easy to reach and really accommodating but that said, we didn’t need anything. Great large and house with a nice hot tub. It was a really relaxing time. Thanks!”
“We’ve spent the Labor Day weekend here with our two kids. The pictures on the site do not do the house justice! It’s gorgeous and huge! It’s bright and airy and filled with so many wonderful little nooks to read. The kitchen is equipped like an industrial one with everything you could possibly need. For someone like me who likes to cook, the many sizes of cast iron pans was a delight! The days we were here were wonderfully foggy and it felt like we were up in the clouds. We came for a relaxing weekend and that’s exactly what we got. Hopefully next time we get to come with our soon-to-arrive rescue pup. Just one recommendation, please label the switches. There were several that we couldn’t quite figure out what they worked for.”
“The house was perfect and we didn’t want to leave. Next time we need to come back and stay for longer.”
“Thanks. The house was beautiful and we had a great time.”
"Beautiful home This was the perfect location for our family. There is plenty of room for family time as well as private space for quiet conversations. The house has every imaginable resource for cooking and relaxation . The property managers are very accessible and helpful."
"Special and Relaxing Retreat I loved the Sonoma Treehouse. The property is beautifully situated among tall trees. The sunset views are incredible. The construction of the house and the design and decor are really special. Every detail, from the electrical outlet covers to the shower heads, was thought about. Kitchen is fully stocked and clean with a Viking stove. Linens smelled good and were comfortable. There is a lot more room than we originally thought. We walked through the neighborhood, admiring the architecture, and walked on the trails, which are great and plentiful. Recommend stopping by the Sea Ranch Association office to pick up maps and info. The house is a very short drive to the beach. I highly recommend the Sonoma Treehouse to anyone who wants a relaxing retreat and who will appreciate the thoughtfulness put into making the house so comfortable and welcoming. I am really grateful to the owners for opening up their house to vacationers. 5/5 wonderful!"

"This is a lovely house in a great location. It is tucked on the ridge with beautiful old growth forest around it. Our kids liked tromping around outside and found a little pond to explore. There are great views from the decks and the hot tub and you can hear the waves pounding. The inside of the house is so cool! It has been decorated with an amazing collection of vintage mid-century modern furniture that the owners apparently spent decades collecting - it fits right into the famous "sea ranch" style of architecture. We took pictures of some of the pieces in hopes that we'll find some like them someday. The architecture of the house is also great - the big great room gets tons of light and fits a family or group easily. The master has a delightful little nook with a stained glass window that is perfect for settling in with a good book. Finally, if you like to cook, the kitchen is the best stocked of any rental home I've ever been to (although they do need a tea pot - nudge, nudge). We went to at least 4 different beaches and hiked several different trails during our stay. There is lots to do. We had a great visit and hope to return again soon!"
